Worker caught on camera as she tries to injure herself for compensation claim

An employee's attempt to fraudulently get money out of the company she works for backfired all thanks to a CCTV footage that captured what really happened and foiled her plans.

Sheyla Veronica White was sitting at her desk, working in her office in Fort Lauderdale when a sprinkler head fell from the ceiling and landed on her desk.




Afterward, Sheyla made a claim using her company’s insurance company. She demanded compensation for an injury she claimed she sustained when the sprinkler fell, however, the insurance company became suspicious and referred it to Florida’s Division of Investigative and Forensic Services. Detectives requested the security cam footage in the office and the truth was revealed.

The video showed the moment the shower head fell and Sheyla picked it up, looked around and when she was certain no one was watching, she hit herself on the forehead with it, then filed for worker's compensation, hoping to get a payout.

She was convicted for insurance fraud and sentenced to 18 months of probation. She didn’t have to pay any compensation because the crime was discovered before she got any money.
